The Chengdu-Daocheng Yading flight CA4215/16 is set to be operated daily by using A319 aircraft with good plateau performance. The whole journey only takes about a hour and five minutes. The outbound flight is scheduled to take off from Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport at 6:50 a.m. and arrive in Daocheng Yading at 7:55 a.m.; while the return flight is scheduled to leave from DCY at 8:45 a.m. and land in Chengdu at 9:50 a.m.
Built with a total investment of 1.3 billion yuan, the Yading airport is located at 4,411 metres above sea level and 50 km from Daocheng county of the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Garze, southwest China's Sichuan Province. The regional airport is a 4C-class airport, with a 4,200-meter-long and 45-meter-wide runway and four tarmcs, which surpassed Tibet Changdu Bangda Airport at an elevation of 4,334 meters, becoming the highest civil airport in the world.
Air China Yunnan branch has conducted a successful test flight and a route test flight in the Daocheng Yading airport and in November 2012 and September 2013 respectively.
For its scenery, Yading is known as "the last Shangri-La" and "the last pure land on the blue planet." After the operation of the airport, it will drastically cut the travel time between the county and the provincial capital of Chengdu from two days by bus to only an hour by air.
Currently, the Yading airport has opened a daily flight from Chengdu to Daocheng Yading, taking off from Chengdu at 06:50 a.m. and arriving in Daocheng Yading at 7:55 a.m. Besides, the airport is also planning to launch several non-stop flights linking the country with other cities including Mianyang, Luzhou, Yibin, Lijiang, Kunming, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou in the near further.
