SinoCast | Oct. 02, 2007
Kunpeng Airlines, a joint venture of Shenzhen Airlines Co., Ltd. and Phoenix-headquartered Mesa Air Group, one of the largest regional airlines in the US, launched 11 maiden routes on September 28, 2007.
Including Xi'an-Taiyuan-Tianjin, Xi'an-Yichang and Xi'an-Hohhot, all new routes provide discount tickets at 100 yuan in the first month since they open. Nowadays, the company offers one flight each routes everyday.
Kunpeng Airlines, a regional air carrier, is headquartered in Beijing but fixes base airport in Xi'an, capital city of Northwest China's Shaanxi Province. It is expected to make profits in 2008.
The venture chooses its base airport in Xi'an because there are great potentials of regional aviation market in Northwest China, which is a less-developed region and is accelerating development steps on the supporting of the country. General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) is carrying out experiment in subsidizing profit-losing airlines in the region.
